DC electric motors

Despite progresses in the field of speed and torque control in AC electric motors, DC electric motors are still used in many industries that require speed and torque control. DC electric motors can be classified in different ways. One of the most common methods considers the type of internal circuit of the motors, which can be separate, series, shunt and compound excitation. Each of these types of DC electric motors has advantages and limitations. Direct current excitation DC electric motors of separate and series type are most used in large industries. Separate excitation DC motors are mostly used in the steel industry and hot and cold rolling lines. In steel rolling lines, according to the working regime and installation location of DC electric motors, various naming has been performed for DC electric motors, among which we can mention COILER, MANDREL, SHEAR, PINCH ROLL, WRAP ROLL etc. motors. DC series electric motors are mainly used for traction purposes and for situations that require very high starting torque.
